Yes, 512mb is the max for a single virtual machine. In addition,
assigning more ram to a VM actually degrades performance. Unless you
have a specific need (an app that needs more ram in Windows), I would
recommend leaving VMs at their default settings.

... It might help to use a 64 bit OS, Wine, ... Yes I am fully aware of the RAM limitations of a 32bit OS ... I assure you that Wine is *not* assigning more than some pre-set fixed ... In a virtual machine, there is a setting for how much RAM you desire ...
