OK, I'll take your comment on board.
I agree with Ryan, if it's the delta in bit length and a decision was made for performance reasons, then give the user the ability to chose the 80bit FPU. i'd rather the code work slowly than not at all.
However, I myself was a wee-bit miffed when Ryan said this:
The apps that I'm specifically talking about are proprietary apps primarially written in Java so I can't give them out. BUT I know I've seen it doing some basic windows operations while installing windows 2000 or installing programs or something like that. I don't remember where it was I was seeing it out side of our pripretary apps, but I'll be sure to take note of it next time I see it in a windows operation. It might have been when windows shows a percentage completed. maybe a network copy? Can't remember...
but he doesn't offer us any assistance by providing a demonstratable case of the
breakage. Whether he has any of this proprietary code in source form I don't know.
And anyway... Java?! A percentage of a network copy?! Is any of this relevant?!
It may not be the emulator's fault that any of this happens, and if Ryan is running
a Java app on Windows on Virtual PC, then why doesn't he run that app on the
Macintosh instead?! What was the version of Java he needed to run in order to
run that app? Java 1.0.2?! That bug could have been fixed by now... by Sun!
And if this is a network operation... what could be the failure here? A misrendered
in-progress dialogue box?! Could it actually be a failure contributed to by an
actual network error?!!! I'd be more worried about that, actually!
So you see the issue I am painting here? How can he expect us to help if he doesn't
provide the evidence and a decent explanation?!
Kind regards,
