For the last month or so, I have been trying to connect my Garmin GPS
Quest, via USB, to my system via Virtual PC with Windows XP
Proferssional without success. I installed VPC 7 on my dual 2.0 GHz G5
(OS 10.3.4) followed by the installation of MapSource, the Garmin map
software. However, Windows does not see the Quest unit. It first
happens when the installer asks to read the unlock code in the Quest
and this fails, However, Mapsource does install when I enter the unlock
code manually. After that, no matter what I do, the softeare cannot
locate the Quest even though all the UISB drivers are in the Garmin
folder. One time I was able to see the USB drivers in the Device
Manager and tried to install manually via the Device Manager and I got
an error saying the USB driver could not be started up (Code 10 error).
The Garmin drivers show up in the DM liust as a yellow diamond with a
! in the center.

I have also tried to install and connect using my 15", 1 .67 GHz Al
laptop and again VPC cpould not connect with the Quest. My laptop runs
OS 10.3.8.

I have plenty of RAM (1.5 GB in the G5; 384 MB in the Powerbook) and
ther is no issue with Hard Drive space.

I was able to install the Garmin and connect the Quest using a Wintel
machine running Windows XP Pro. The system saw the Quset via USB
immediately and I could upload and download from and to the Quest.

I spent 2.5 hours today witha Microsoft Virtual PC support person
without success. Her conclusion was that for some reason, the install
does not put the Garmin USB drivers in the right place. By the way, the
support was outstanding and gave lie to my previous beliefs about
Microsoft support.

Has anyone had a similar situation and perhaps found a solution?

Thanks an awlful lot for any help you can give.
