VPC 7.0 does seem to wire down more memory, at least according to top.
Considering that you're running with 768mb on the host, if you assign
512mb to the guest, you're pretty much guaranteed that you'll be forced
into paging at some point.

Also, a Windows XP VM runs better with less RAM, not more... more RAM,
means more to emulate and the app has a larger footprint overall. I
wouldn't give a VM more than 256mb unless I had more than 1gb in the
host, and then, only if I had a Windows app that needed that much ram.
