i used to run VPC 4, windows 98 on a powerbook with OS 9.2.2. worked
fine with my Garmin GPS 18 once i installed the garmin USB drivers and
mapsource. but now...

i'm running VPC 7.0.1, windows XP on an iBook G4, OS10.3.7. trying to
interface with a Garmin 18 USB on either mapsource or nRoute. no luck.
neither will see the GPS even after i installed the garmin USB
drivers.

in Settings, i've enabled USB, and VPS settings sees "unknown USB
device". i check that, but everytime i go back to Settings, it's
unchecked.

if i start windows with the GPS plugged in, it stays checked, but still
won't work with the GPS.

the device manager doesn't see it either, no matter if i start with it
plugged in, or plug and unplug it. the device manager sees all other
USB devices i plug in, just not the GPS.

garmin says it may be the OpenHCD chipset that shows as the USB host
controller in the device manager, but can't offer any fix or
work-around.

any ideas?

is that OpenHCD chipset an actual chip in the iBook? or is it what VPC
emulates? any fixes?

thanks
