Part of your confusion stems from the fact that there are two products named
Internet Explorer, both from microsoft. One runs under the Mac OS. The
other runs under flavors of microsoft's Windows OS, and on your machine the
microsoft OS is the one running inside VirtualPC.

What your previous poster was advising you to do was, from inside virtual
PC, run the Windows version of Internet Explorer, and go to
www.microsoft.com and look for security patches for whatever flavor of
windows you are running.
