Howdy, Bean,
I also have recently had trouble with zone.msn.com, using VPC7, XP-Pro, and
IE. I was trying to play backgammon instead of spades. After several
failed installation and de-installation attempts I reached a point where the
download/installation process would fail because it was unable to write one
of the files.
Zone installation is tricky even if you have a real PC. And support for it
is a good facsimile of non-existent. I sent mail describing my plight to
the support address that you can find with a lot of digging. What I got
back was a link to page telling me what I needed to remove to disinstall:
zone.msn.com/en/support/article/support3203.htm
Unfortunately one of the links on that page (the one that's supposed to
describe how to delete cookies in temporary internet files) was to the wrong
page, so part of the disinstall instructions are effectively kept secret.
Since I'd only had VPC7 for about a week and hadn't installed much other
software, I disinstalled/reinstalled VPC7 intending to try to re-install
zone software from scratch. Will do that sometime this weekend.
I should add that until about 14 months ago, with older versions of VPC and
IE, I was able to play backgammon at the zone. At that point, though, they
upgraded their end beyond the compatibility level of my version of IE. And
they no longer supported an upgrade path from the version of IE that I had
to a newer version (I was two major versions out of date).
Will let you know if my new attempt is successful.
