When using Shared Networking what is the Port # used When my Guest OS
(WIN2000) uses IE 6.0 SP1 to access the Net (after the Mac has
connected to the Net)? Is it still Port 80 as it is when I use IE
5.2.3 on the Mac side? (My intuition tells me that VPC is *really*
hardware and VPC Guests will operate just like real Hardware ; & still
true w/ Shared Hardware?)
I have the WIN2000 set up using a LAN connection,,,
On the Mac side there is nothing else connected to the Net except my
dial-up modem.
My Firewall is BrickHouse (on Mac; none on the Guest OS side) and it
is buttoned down pretty tight . e.g., I deny ALL incoming ports from
the Net But I allow All outgoing ports.
I am asking because *infrequently* Windows Update does not work...
especially when I have an idle Mac IE open ... Also, McAfee anti-virus
(V 8.0) behaves erratic when updating Virus Defs if an idle IE on the
Mac is open.. It *seems* that I have no trouble when I have NO IE open
on the Mac while updating...
Both of these use Windows Internet Options such as Active X objects..
Etc. AND one MUST have the Guest OS version of IE absolutely *pristine
security & privacy" settings with regards to TEMP files, Cookies,
Active X, etc.
Anyone else had similar experience with updating?
Cheers, Jim b
PS: I have not used Virtual Switch b/c that entails using WIN2000 net
connection settigs for dial-up & connect to the Net.. Right?
