To install USB device (a scanner EPSON Perfection 1250) with the disk
and PC maintenance
The EPSON Perfection 1250 scanner is a scanner for Mac and PC:
This method is only done with the disk of the device, contrary to the
first method (printer EPSON 760 also mac and pc device) where we were
going to search for the last drivers and the last software on Internet
sites of the suppliers.
It can also apply for very other USB device (printer, external DD,
Zip,USB.key..). A scanner,this device in any case needs RAM to install
this type of device.
By using my scanner, VPC 6.1.1 asks, with OS 9.2.2 and W98 SE, 200 Mo
of memory dedicated to the PC. I give again the minis system
requirements by Microsoft for VPC 6.1:

The RAM is the memory only for the PC .
I also point out that the mouse, the keyboard, the floppy drive and
the hub installed on Mac run also on Windows thanks to Virtual PC. No
need for an installation on Windows.
Installation of a scanner USB
All these advices are done in Windows with the scanner turned off
except when it is specified to turn on. But it's possible to let the
USB cable on.
The 1st thing to do before installing USB devices with Virtual PC is
to update Windows imperatively. Even with a real PC, it's the same
thing.
For that in IE: bar menus then tools then Windows Update. And there,
update the critical updates only. And restart the PC (in the menus
control restart )
It is necessary of course also that in settings PC, USB will be
activated (edition then PC settings and USB then Click to select the
Enable USB check box.and click on OK), and restart the PC. Each time
you change the PC settings, you have to restart the PC in order it
recognizes the new setting. If not, you get the old setting only.
1-if you have installed the scanner without success.
We will check that the device is well installed on Windows or is not.
Start then parameters then control panel then system. In properties
system, go to the tab device manager. Click by device.. Turn on the
USB scanner
Normally, it appears in the tree . In my case, images device appears
below Disk drives. Turn the + in front of images device into -
Appears below, the scanner installed in my case it is written EPSON
Perfection 1250.
If there is a yellow exclamation or question mark, that wants to say
that the device is badly installed.
You have to uninstall it: For that, in the same device manager, to
select EPSON Perfection 1250 and in bottom to remove. Click on OK.
Always in the device manager. We will also check the ports. For
that, below device system, there are Ports (COM and LPT). Turn + in
front of Images device into - If there is a port (LPT), it is
necessary to remove it. Select it and in bottom to remove. Click on
OK. (because with the pcs, by default the port is LPT ie parallel)
Now, we will remove all about the scanner
For that, start then parameters then control panel. Open Add and
remove programs.. Click in the tab Change and remove programs. To
select all the programs according to the scanner i.e. software and
the scanner. With the EPSON Perfection 1250, there is to remove EPSON
Photo Print, Smart Panel, TWAIN 5, Scan to Web, Copy utility, ArcSoft
Photoimpression 3.O. Click on remove and OK. Empty the trash and
restart the PC.
Now, we will control that all was removed. For that, start then
search for a file. Write EPSON or HP.... Click on search. All
files EPSON will be found. We will remove those which deals with the
scanner and its software.
Select the one. Always in the bar of the menus, file and to remove
the files one after the other. Empty the trash. Turn off the
scanner.And restart the PC.
I give the direct link of Easy Cleaner which may be used only for the
register, the unnecessary files and starting. EasyCleaner is a
utility for PC. With it, the PC will be quicker, you will earn disk
space, and you increase its utility by clear the invalid entries in
the base of register, the unnecessary files, the obsolete links.
I use it each month. It's a very good software.
