I think this was the trick for me. Once I got Win95 booted, I did as you
suggested above and found that two sets of VPC Additions were
installed--neither of which were current apparently since the "you need
to update VPC Additions" screen would pop-up. After removing the old
Additions (twice) and installing the new ones, everything seems to be
working fine.

I was able to use the Win98 upgrade CD over the top of Win95 without
issue. Now running successfully. Thanks again!
