To install USB device with Virtual PC (an EPSON 760 printer):
Follow on.

2 Installation or reinstallation of the USB printer:
The 1st thing to do before installing USB devices with Virtual PC is
to update Windows imperatively. Even with a real PC, it's the same
thing.
For that in IE: bar menus then tools then Windows Update. And there,
update the critical updates only. And restart again the PC (in the
menus control and restart)
It is necessary of course also that in PC settings, USB will be
activated (edition then PC settings and USB, then activate USB and
to click on OK), and restart again the PC. Each time you change the
PC settings, you have to restart the PC in order it recognizes the new
setting. If not, you get the former setting only.
All these advices are done in Windows with the printer turn off
except when it is specified of turning on.. But it's possible to get
only the USB plug on.

2-1 It is necessary to download the last drivers and to install them.
Here is method of a French publication Micro Hebdo to download the
last drivers.
 "1 - Create a special file
Not to take the risk not to find the drivers which you will have
downloaded and not remembering the place where Windows will have
placed them. In order to avoid this problem, there is a simple mean
which consists in creating yourself a file in which all the drivers
will be placed.
Point on Start then programs and click on Windows Explorer.
In the window which opens, click on the icon (C:), who is in the left
part of the screen. Point then on File then New of the menus bar and,
in the menu which opens, click on file. In the right side, bottom of
the screen, there must be an icon whose name New File is overlined.
Type simply the name of your choice, for example downloaded Drivers,
and leave the Explorer.
2 - Reach the good page on the Internet site.
You will launch your connection Internet, then to return to you on the
site of the supplier of the device you want to install. Scan for in
priority the Drivers words or download. It may be also that you find
yourselves in a page which give you several possible choices like
certified Last drivers or the driver Last to you. In this case,
choose last drivers which, undoubtedly, will give you access to
versions more recent than those which are on your PC. If, thereafter,
you still note problems, you will have to then fold back you on the
certified drivers.
3 - Do find the good drivers
Once on the page which contains the links to download the drivers, you
have to click on those which correspond to the device. In our case
(it's an example), it is necessary to select the column Win 98 and the
line Millenium G400. In the name of the file, w9x means that the
pilots are compatible with Windows 95/98, and 552 corresponds to the
number of the version. It may be also that the drivers are appointed
by a simple number; it is then enough to choose highest. Lastly, in
the not very probable case where there would be only one date to
define the chronology of the pilots, remember that in English the
dates are partly reversed. Thus, the 07-11-2001 corresponds to July
11, 2001. When you select a driver reference, it is usual that a new
page containing the conditions of use of the drivers opens. Read them
(easy when they are in French) or go directly in bottom of the page
and click on a line which, in our example, is I agree to the above
note and would like to dowload w9x_552.exe.
4 select where to place the drivers
After reading of the conditions of use, a window is posted and asks
you what you want to do of this file. Select the option Save this
program on the disk and click on OK. In the window which opens, click
on the drop-down list named In: and click on (C:). Then, within the
framework which is just below, double-click on the file which you
created at stage 1 (in our example we named it downloaded drivers) and
give a name to the file in space text named Nom: (for example Pilots
for G400Win95_98ver_622.exe).
Lastly, click on the Save button to launch the remote loading. The
time of this operation varies according to the size of the file and
the quality of connection.
5 - Unzip the driver
When the remote loading is finished, unzip is still needed. The file
must be unzip. To carry out this operation, launch the Windows
Explorer and, in the right part of the window which opens, click on
the file created at stage 1 (downloaded Pilots). In the right part of
the screen, you must see the drivers file now for
400Win95_98ver622.exe. Double-click above and, in the window which
appears, type C:\drivers downloaded in the space text which is under
the named line Unzip to folder. Then click on the Unzip button in
order to launch unzip. A few seconds later, a message indicates to
you that the files were correctly unzipped. Click on OK to close the
message and to return to the preceding window, where you will be able
to click on Close to close again it.
6 - Install new driver
At present, it is obviously necessary to launch the installation of
the driver which you have unzipped. For that, it is enough, in our
example, to double- click on the Setup.exe file which is in the
drivers file downloaded and to follow the indications posted by each
screen of the program of installation. Note what, according to the
driver, the Setup.exe file can bear another name ending in exe, for
example install.exe.? The installation of the driver can also only be
done with an assistant for which it is necessary to answer." End of
Micro Hebdo document.

2-2 Installation of the USB printer by itself:
Switch on the printer.. There is creation of the drivers list
Then:
 - Start then parametres then printing. - In the window printers,
double click on Printer add for launching the Printer add assistant.
It is possible that the printer is already installed. In this case,
selection of the printer installed by default and remove it. -
Select the supplier and the printer model then click on following.
If the printer is not in the list , use the printing driver provided
with the printer to finish the installation.
Insert CD (E:\) or floppy (A:\) which includes the printing driver in
the suitable disk and click on floppy supplied (even you get a CD)
Select glance through the CD to generally find the printing drivers.
Generally, E:\Français\Win... Then, you select follow.
-to configure the printing port choose USB. In my case EPUSB1 (Stylus
COLOR 760) and not LPT1 or COM 1 or COM 2 which are serial and
parallel ports
- configuration of the by default printer.
- to print a page of test.

>From now:
This is fundamental, to use a printer USB (or all USB device) with
Windows and Virtual PC, it is necessary imperatively that this one
will be switch off on the Mac side and to switch on only when Windows
Desk is well installed, ie when Windows has finished working.
It is possible to let the USB link on.

To get \ just select one control+C and control+V for copy and paste

This topic is on line on the French forum since 10 months. I've had
any complaint.
