It's a translation of advices I give on a French Mac forum. Excuse my
very bad English.
To install an USB device with Virtual PC (an EPSON 760 printer):
All these advices are done in Windows with the printer turn off
except when it is specified of turning on.. But it's possible to get
only the USB plug on.
The 1st thing to do before installing USB devices with Virtual PC is
to update Windows imperatively. Even with a real PC, it's the same
thing.
For that in IE: bar menus then tools then Windows Update. And there,
update the critical updates only. And restart the PC (in the menus
controls to start again)
It is necessary of course also that in settings PC, USB will be
activated (edition then settings PC and USB then Click to select the
Enable USB check box.and to click on OK), and restart again the PC.
Each time you change the PC settings, you have to restart the PC in
order it recognizes the new setting. If not, you get the previous
setting only.
1-if you have tried to install the printer unsuccessfully, we will
check that the device is well installed on Windows or if it's not ?
start then parameters then control panel then system.
In properties system, go to the tab device manager. Turn on the USB
printer. Normally, it will be appear in the tree . In my case, Epson
USB printers appears below the screens. Turn the + in front of Epson
printers USB into -
Appears below, the printer installed with the pilot (in my case Epson
printer USB(EPUSB1). If there are a question mark or yellow ! that
wants to say that the device is badly installed.
You have to uninstall it. For that, in the same device manager,
select Epson printer USB(EPUSB1) and in bottom to remove. And click
on OK.
Now, we will remove all about the printer.
For that: start then parameters then control panel. Open Add and
remove programs.
Click in the tab Change and remove programs. Select all the programs
according to the printer ie software and printing. Click on removing
and OK.
Empty the trash and restart again the PC.
Now, we will check that all was removed.
For that start then search for a file. Write EPSON or HP.... Click
on searching. All the EPSON files will be seen. Click on one In the
menus bar, edition then Select the whole. Always in the bar of the
menus, file and remove.
Empty the trash And restart again the PC.
To clean the useless register and files with Easy Cleaner is also
necessary.
Here is the link. Use it only for the registry and the unnecessary
files. I use it each month. It was a freeware but nowadays it's a
shareware:

My brother in law who doesn't know the program clean his PC of 1,5 Go
last Christmas !!!
