I've gotten Solaris 9 to install but couldn't get past the
configuration/welcome screen (after about 4.5 hours of letting the installer
just run). I also did RedHat 9. It ran but it was painfully slow (akin to
an all day migrain) and the VPC drive container was not visible to OS X so
it looked like 15 GB of my HD just disappeared. I'm using a dual 867 G4.
I've read a bit about the Mac on Linux project, which I think is related to
Gentoo Linux somehow. If you wanted to run Linux as a primary OS and then
OS X as secondary, it might be worth a look. Yellow dog is supposed to be
good as well (I have to assume this since the Navy uses it on their subs).
I use VPC daily with XP and had relatively little problems with it until I
updated to 10.3.3. Now it will randomly crash, but not often (3-4 times a
week).
I've also tried BOCHS and even got the slick version from OpenOSX. I
couldn't get Windows XP to run and got Windows 95 to the Desktop but it was
even slower than Virtual PC.
Would X11 forwarding from a Solaris machine work?
