Exactly what happens when you try to update. Are you able to get the update?
When does the process fail.

You told me to manually remove Office. After I do this, should I or should I

Once you have run the combo you shuldn't have to do it again. Remove Office
manually, restart. Hold Shift key down when logging into your account to
disable all applications. Then you can try updating safely.

I want to take care of this prior to 'attacking' the DNS problem.

If you can't download the updater you will need to do this first.

Sorry for asking so many questions, but I'm not very computer savvy
(especially with a Mac).

BTW, what type of computer do you have. PPC....Intel. The Apple system
profiler will tell you. Under the Apple in the Menu bar, select "About this
Mac." Click on the "more info" button. That will open the System profiler.
