I can't honestly say whether the 2008 feature set is greater or lesser - for
one thing, it depends on one's definition of "feature":-)

The one thing I *can* say is that the feature set is *different* in the 2
versions - However, if you primarily use what you refer to as "basic
functionality" you should find little difference between the two... Again,
definition of "basic functionality" is pivotal.

The two key differences for most uses are 1) lack of VBA support (no Macros)
in 2008, and 2) the new graphics features in 2008 not being directly
supported in prior version file format. Other than that it's more a matter
of getting adjusted to the somewhat different interface.

I sincerely doubt you'll find an in-depth analytical comparison of what one
version has that the other doesn't on a "feature-by-feature" basis. Both
versions are rich enough that anything complete & accurate wouldn't be
available before the release of "version next" anyway:-)

As a starting point you might try Help, then select "What's new in Office"
from the list of Popular Topics as well as exploring the Mactopia web site:

Hi everyone,

I just have a quick query in regards to the feature set of Office 2008 vs
2004.
I have installed both versions but only use basic functionality of both, my
question is based around whether there are less features available in 2008
than 2004?
If so which features are missing?

I vaguely remember seeing a post on one of these groups from a Microsoft
specialist advising that it is best to leave the upgrade to 2008 until you
really need to due to less features and a number of incompatibility issues and
existing bugs.

Any information would be very useful....

Thanks,

Alan.
