Re: Cannot Open any Applics after 2004 Install

Hi Curt:

Are you still around? I have run out of ideas here. What should I advise
this user?

Duncan: Please don't do anything else until we get Curt's take on this.
Curt is the Microsoft Software Engineer fighting the fires in this group
currently.

A 10660 error means "Unable to find something", but I am not sure what.

Oh: One thought... "How" are you trying to open a Word .doc? If you use
File>Open from within Word, what happens? The ability to double-click files
on the desktop will not appear until Word has successfully launched for the
first time, at which time, it should generate the preferences needed to tell
the System what to do with double-clicked .docs.

Cheers

I've taken out the library preferences folder, Office still won't load (error
10660 when I try and load a word file from Desktop) So I'm now in default mode
on the Mac. Have lost old mails but think that's because I have already done
archive and restore. Apple mail has no data in it.

Have tested for corrupt entourage prefs

have tried in safe mode

have deleted all evidence of 'microsoft' in preferences and subfolders

have reloaded office etc

Some applics now behave strangely - Iphoto needs to reload Ilife and
Dreamweaver 2004 won't load. Logic is ok and I have audio files on another
internal HD. Thank goodness.

Entourage still ok - tho have deleted some bad messages causing crashes. It's
the other office applics that won't open at all. If anyone is interested I
have the error report.

think I'd better learn to create a disk image - can I restore this if i erase
and restore? Photos.. Itunes music etc etc.

I can post the report if anyone thinks it's useful. It's long.

Frustrated, not sure what to do. Knowledge gaps emerging!

Duncan
