Re: Cannot Open any Applics after 2004 Install

Hi Duncan:

OK, I've lost the thread here, so let me check that you have:

1) Searched for and removed all instances of Normal template?

2) Gone to ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (10) and removed
that file?

3) Searched for and deleted all preferences with "microsoft" in the name
from both the System Library and your User library?

4) Moved your Microsoft User Data folder off the disk and re-named it?

If you have done all of the above, then do a "Safe Boot" ( Hold down the
Shift key immediately after the startup tone, and release when you see the
progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

This is a "conflict". I am trying to find out what it is conflicting 'with'
:-)

If Word/Excel runs in Safe Mode (well, they won't, but they shouldn't
crash...) then we need to remove all your Startup items, then bring them
back one after the other until we find out which one is doing this.

Yes, an Erase install will remove the entire content of the hard disk. You
do not need to lose data, you could move it to your external drive
temporarily. But let's see what happens when you do the rest of these
before we do anything that drastic (partly because if it works with an Erase
Install, you then have to be careful what you bring back...)

Hope this helps

Thanks for the support.

Unfortunately..

So I've done, new user, Archive and Install, Combo update, uninstall office,
reinstall office and all updates.

Same crashes, except for Entourage.

Erase and Install sounds radical. I have two HDs, the second only for audio,
which isn't gonna be touched. I guess if I erase the Mac HD I'm gonna loose
data. Maybe I could install Office on the Other HD - don't really want to do
this.. Next? :)
