sketching with tablet in Office.

I use a mac and a projector in my middle school math classroom.
I want to displace my overhead projector altogether but I still use it
to make drawings, write algorithms, ans so on.
I was thinking about getting a wacom tablet so I could do all of the
drawing / equation stuff on the computer as well. Right now it is hard
to bang out a long division problem or reduce a fraction at the
keyboard.
Will one of these tablets work for this sort of thing in word or power
point? I understand that I would be able to convert text using inkwell
but that isn't what I want to do. I understand that I could draw if I
was using photoshop or something similar, but I don't own anything like
that.

Or is there something in the mac OS that would let me draw?
