Hello. I have two accounts on my G5, one is an admin account, the there a
"working" with limited privileges one. I always update/upgrade software from
my admin account.
Until recently, my MS Office update engine was letting me know,
automatically, when updates were available. After Service Pack 2 that
stopped. Since then, I have tried to update "manually", by downloading the
updaters from MacTopia.
In the Applications folder should be an application called "Microsoft
AutoUpdate.App" - start this up and see that it is set for automatic
checking.
Even without this, did 'check for updates' under the Help menu not find
anything.
Odd thing no. 1 is that I get message now telling me that the updater cannot
find the correct files to update.
In that case, you have probably already got a current version installed.
Odd thing no. 2 is that Word, Excel, Entourage and PPT all have different
update versions (ranging from 11.2 to 11.2.5) ...
That's normal - not every application file gets updated every time - often
it is only one of the linked libraries or support files.
Odd thing no. 3 is that the updater seems to work from my non-admin account.
It seems to work because it tells me that it is updating two items but when
it is "done" all previous versions in all the Office parts are ... The same!
There's probably some voodoo going on around system prefs here - I assume
the restricted account doesn't have write access to the Applications folder?
Microsoft has historically not made sense with their error messages, always
written in Klingon. This is a new one though ... This time, the error
messages are in English but the behavior is nonsensical.
Agreed!
Any ideas?
Look at this file:
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Microsoft Component Plugin
That should be at version 11.2.6, mod date 26/07/2006 - if it is, you are
up to date.
Thank you.

I had read this message only minutes before I went to apply the last two
updates (11.2.5 & 11.2.6)--just today. At first, I thought I was going to
have the same problem. It took the time that it needed to download the
file. Then it just seemed to hang on the last screen for awhile. The
download bar was filled to the end, but the install button hadn't actually
applied itself yet. I decided to just be patient and see how long it "sat"
there. It appeared to be doing nothing at all, but after several minutes,
it finally asked for my password so that it could authenticate. I entered
it and it finally asked me to shut down Entourage so that it could apply the
update.
Maybe it's possible that you clicked "cancel" because the program "seemed"
to be finished.

I have got Office2004 for Mac. I tried updating the software, but after
downloading update 11.2.5 the update manager closes without installing.
Checking for updates again results in finding the update I already
downloaded without getting installed.
Does anyone know how to get the update installed?
