The S/T EULA explicitly excludes any commercial use of the product. I just
mentioned the going price for comparison purposes in the event he/she
chooses to go that route.

I am also careful not to recommend the S&T version to anyone, or at least to
say "if you are eligible" (or words to that effect).

I am surprised that MS don't take exception to the unrestricted sale of S&T
edition - it is available almost universally, without any checking that the
purchaser can satisfy the license requirements. I would hav eexpected MS
Legal to send a 'C&D' letter to the larger outlets at least.
