Re: 10.1.6 office crash under 10.4.6

Additional info/clarifications:

I've tried all of the suggestions I've read here and in the Apple
discussion list regarding Office v.X and crashes related to fonts. Not
that I ever had an error message mentioning fonts, but I tried and
nothing worked.

Also, did the thing of shutting off the Project Gallery to no effect.

And so on. I've again reinstalled Office, updated it to 10.1.7, thrown
out the preferences and all, but I still can't get it to work when I
log in as a network user. Local users are still fine.

I'll upgrade to Office 2004, but I need to know it'll do the trick for
me.

At school, we've had virtually no problem with Office v.X from its
original version through the 1.2 upgrade and the 1.6 update I list in
the subject line. Our version of OS X has varied from 10.2.4 to 10.3.9.

Now we're going up to 10.4.6 and have troubles with all of the Office
apps. Be it Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, we can usually open the app
once, save a file, and then the program will crash with whatever action
is taken next. The same will happen when a user tries to open up the
previously created file. Once the first user has had this problem
occur, the next user to log in will likely have the app crash on
startup, never getting any chance to create a file.

With our school network, I have all of my users, both staff and
students, log into our system as network users. The master XServer,
which keeps their accounts, is running 10.3.9 as is a second and third
X where the respective users' Home directories are stored.

If the client computer is running 10.3.9 or older, they don't seem to
have a problem, but with the 10.4 that I'm cloning onto the user
stations, problems have arisen. (The clone copy comes from a G5 tower
with 10.4.6 and Office 10.1.6 on it where the network users seemed to
work fine.) With any local login, there are no problems whether the
local user has an admin. account or standard.

I have occasionally had a little luck by throwing out all of the
preferences and folders related to Office in a user's home directory
(User's Home:Library:Preferences), throwing out the Office folder in
the Applications folder, and reinstalling the folder from the original
CD. Today, I had zero luck doing so in any variation I tried.

I've read many of the posts to this group regarding v.X crashes under
older OSes and for other reasons. Do I have to dig in and check fonts
and the rest of it, or is something different happening under 10.4?

I just downloade 10.1.7 that'll I'll try tomorrow but was wondering
what else I should consider.

My thanks in advance,
