Re: Still Can't Update..11.2.5

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Several weeks ago, I posted the following message on
microsoft.public.office.mac:

A few days ago, I updated MS Office to v11.2.4. Then my PowerBook performed
one of its scheduled performance updates. Then my MS AutoUpdate ran one of
its scheduled checks and said I needed to install v11.2.4 (again). I
checked my MS apps with Get Info, and they all say that they are now
v11.2.3. So when I try to reinstall v11.2.4, it says I can't install
because I don't have the right applications.

When I found microsoft.public.mac.office, I see that several people are
having similar related problems. Apparently this is not a single user
issue.

I finally worked out a solution, but it still feels unsatisfactory to me.

A little background is in order. I have a Western Digital external hard
drive. I use SuperDuper to back up the entire contents of my Mcintosh HD
every night. Some time ago when MS AutoUpdate ran, it installed Office
11.2.3 on the external HD without my permission. When I tried to run the
installer again and force the install on my PowerBook, I started getting the
messages we're all seeing. In the end, I simply dragged the contents of the
Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 from the external hard drive to my
PowerBook. Update complete. Everything worked fine until we get to the
note above and it all started all over again. So the solution for me seems
to be to run the installer on my external HD and then drag the contents of
the install to my computer. By the way, I have since migrated to a MacBook
Pro and had the same problem with 11.2.5.

Best Regards,
Rob

I'm with ya! The only thing I haven't tried (and just because I'm on
vacation right now) is the complete uninstall and direct upgrade to 11.2.5.
Has anyone tried that?

Thanks!!

O.K... Here we go again. I just saw the 11.2.5 is out so I tried it.
I get the same old error - "Can't find correct versions to update" ...

The Office 2004 11.2.5 Update will not install on G4 iMac OSX 10.3.9,
during attempt to update Office 2004 Student & Teacher Edition already
updated to 11.2.3.

First comes the little status message:
"Searching for programs to update"
Then, after a bit, it gives up with an error message. The full text of
the Error message follows:
"The installer could not locate the correct version of the software
required to install this update. See the Read Me file included with
this installer to determine if your software meets the requirements for
this update."

The disappointing result is the same whether I use Microsoft AutoUpdate
or the updater I downloaded directly from their site.

I've been a good boy, checked Read Me... meet all System Requirements:
G3+ (G4); MacOS 10.28 or later (10.3.9); 256MB of RAM (512MB).
I get a gold star for multiple attempts and for using the
Troubleshooting tips for "trouble installing this update"... tried
restart; used admin account; English language version of updater.

So, why can't I make it work? I want the security improvements, and bug
fixes.

Any help vastly appreciated. I can see that I am not the only bloke
having this difficulty.
