I had same problem - but it wasn't the Office upgrade - the problem was 10.4.7



To all:

One of the VPs at Microsoft responded to a similar complaint elsewhere
and speculated it might be "Apple's" problem.

I checked the other Macs in my office. None at 10.4.6 and below were
having this problem.

So I reinstalled the system software from the install disk, which
contained version 10.4.4.

After the installation, Word and Excel worked fine - upgrade and all.

I'm staying at 10.4.4 until I hear that Redmond and Cupertino have
reconciled the two upgrades.
