Situation 1: Was this a sealed copy? If you bought it opened or from a
secondhand source such as eBay, it's no surprise, as keys which are known to
have been pirated have been disabled. Sorry, you'll need to buy a licensed
copy.
Situation 2: If you bought your copy of Office X sealed from a reputable
dealer, it's possible for some reason your key was bad. You can request a
new one by calling Microsoft Product Support Services. For inquiries
regarding Office X (only), click this link for a phone number. You should
not be charged for the replacement key.
