Hi Marc:
No, this proves that the "Preferences" in that user login account (User ID)
are totally pooched, which is why none of the usual fixes work.
If you continue to use the bad user ID, chances are the problem will
continue to get worse, and more problems will appear the longer you use
that.
The best way is simply to move the entire contents of the "Documents" folder
into the new User ID, using Finder while logged in as the new user. (Since
login permissions will prevent you reading from one ID to the other, you
need to move everything to Shared from the bad ID, then move everything from
Shared to Documents using the new ID.
It is important that you do not use Fast User Switching while you do this:
log out from one user then log in as the other, or you may get a whole lot
of nasty errors and exceptions.
Do NOT use any of these "Migrate" or "Move" applications: they tend to
CREATE these kinds of problems. And don't even THINK about copying anything
from Preferences, that's where the problem is...
When you have checked that everything you want has moved successfully, just
delete the old User ID. Don't delete it too quickly, because you may need
some of the passwords stored in its keychain!
Hope this helps

The next test is to create a new User on the Mac.
If things work from there, move the data over into the new login (It's a lot
quicker to simply move the data than to try to work out what has gone
wrong...)
If it doesn't work in a new user, things are really screwed and we need to
do some careful analysis to work out what is wrong. If we get too
adventurous we risk losing all of the saved data, so let's work carefully,
huh? :-)
Right now is a seriously good time to check that the backup is running
properly and you can see all the files that have been saved ‹ you may be
just about to need it :-)
Hope this helps

Hi Mark;
Since your versions are up to date the first thing I'd do is run Disk
Utility - Repair Disk Permissions, shut down the Mac [not a Restart], wait
1-2 minutes then power up & see if the problem continues. If it does, reply
with some additional information in order to help pinpoint the problem;
Exactly when does this occur... On launch, while editing, on Save? Give as
much descriptive detail as you can.
Does it happen with all documents - including newly created ones - or does
it happen only in certain ones?
Does it continue to occur if you hold the Shift key while launching Word?
Note: this is a diagnostic measure not a fix :-)
If you create a new User Account & run Word while logged in as that user
does the problem occur there as well?

Hi
I used the Repair Disk Permissions and then shut the Mac dow, left it
and then restarted it.
Word will load a new blank document but it will not a) save a new doc
or b) open an existing document. Any ideas?

Hi
I tried opening a new user and Word works fine in the new user. Should
I transfer over all the files and applications and is there an easy
way to do that? Do I assume Word in my user is corrupt and I should
not use it? may it "right" itself after the n ext update comes out?
Thanks
Marc
