Re: Printing Graphics From Word 2008

Hi Nigel:

If the "Text" is printing but the graphics don't, just check
Word>Preferences>Print...

"Drawing objects" must be checked.

Use File>Print Preview... If you can see the pictures in Print Preview,
Word is good and the issue is elsewhere.

Make SURE that the printer selected in Word is the actual printer you are
using. If Word is still trying to send the document to the PC user's
printer, this could explain a few things :-)

"Print Preview" sends the document to the OS X printing subsystem, then
displays the file that would otherwise be sent to the printer by OS X. If
you can see the pictures there, you can be sure they are making it to this
end of the piece of wire going to the printer.

If they don't print when they get there, as Bob says, investigate your
printer driver and the amount of memory in the printer. A laser printer has
to hold the whole image of each page in memory while it coats the drum. If
there is not enough memory in the printer, it will discard objects to make
the page fit (the old printers used to simply crash...)

By printing to PDF first, chances are the PDF system in OS X is discarding
quality from the pictures and sending a smaller print image to the printer,
hence avoiding the memory problem. You need about 64MB of memory in a laser
printer to print a full page in colour.

Hope this helps

Hi

I have reviewed all the threads on here re the above and nothing seems to work
in this case.

I have a large document with lots of graphics, but the graphics will not print
directly from Word 2008. However, if I create a PDF file at print time and
then print the PDF file, everything is fine.

Can anyone suggest why this may be happening as new documents with some of the
graphics print fine from Word - this document has been edited in Word 2007 as
well as Word 2008. The document is saved as *.docx.

I am using Word 12.2.1 and a Brother DCP-9042CDN printer.

Many thanks.

Nigel
