Well, Phillip, yes you can. And as long as you save it that way & *leave* it
that way there will most likely be no problem [attributable to having done
so]. Furthermore, however, you can switch from NBL to any other view at any
time. You can also switch from any other view to NBL at any time...
That's what the freakin' problem is!!!
The underlying structure of NBs [as well as Pubs in 2008] is radically
different from that of regular document files... That's why the separate
"views" were provided & that's why the available feature sets are
different... Far more restricted in NB & Pub for very good reason. However,
users have always been able to freely switch from Normal/Draft to Outline to
Page/Print Layout without incident. Because NB & Pub were implemented as
*Views* it gives the impression that it's OK to do the same with them. But
regardless of whether or not the developers say you *should* be able to do
so without incident the fact is you can't.

Not finding in NBL all the features they want to use they switch to
Page/Print Layout or some other view. They then employ the features which
were never intended to be used in NB documents [the reason, perhaps, why

process is bound to corrupt the document which then causes Word to crash...
If the document can be opened at all.
Use NBL to *take notes*, and as John suggests create a new file for each
note-taking session. Revise the note content if necessary by editing the
text or adding to it without getting involved with formatting of the
notes... Use only the default formatting for Bullets & numbering as well as
most everything else. Keep the file in NBL at all times, and if you do need
to generate a document based on the notes make a copy of the file, switch
that copy to another view & *don't* switch it back to NBL - EVER.

Is this happening in all documents or just one in particular?
What do you mean by "jump locations"? I'm sure that's clear to you because
you're witnessing it -- we're not. Are you renaming the tabs? Are the tab
numbers actually appearing more than once or are you seeing the same number
used again after the tab originally bearing that number has been renamed?
Have you been switching between Notebook Layout & other views? Have you
been
rearranging the sections of the document?
In short, we need a much more complete, accurate & detailed description of
the circumstances in order to have a clearer idea of the situation.
Anything
else you can offer might also be useful.
