Re: Mystery Document - Corrupted?

No disrespect for those who have had problems, but you have to take things
in the proper perspective... You rarely hear from anyone who *isn't* having
a problem. For each of those who are there are hundreds ? if not thousands ?
of others who are not experiencing the difficulty.

I have 2008 installed on both a PPC running Tiger & an Intel Mac running
Leopard. Both installations have been kept up to date through 12.1.7 with no
issues on either system... None of the "can't find the program", Set Up
Assistant looping, etc. Please don't misunderstand ? I'm not claiming that
I'm some sort of Super-User exception to the rule. To the contrary, I'm
actually saying that if I as well as numerous others can install & update
without issue there must not be anything inherently flawed in the software.

Likewise, similar symptoms don't necessarily dictate the same specific
causes. The source of the problem for those who have them can very well be
distinctly different... That's why it's so hard to pinpoint, but the
implication is that the misfortunes are locally induced, whether
inadvertent, by accident, negligence, whatever. [I've also noticed that
there seem to be more & more converts from Windows PCs & can't help thinking
that they are treating Macs like PCs rather than learning the OS. Not long
ago there was an issue involving someone who was trying to use Console to
hack the OS for a simple adjustment that is provided for by a simple
checkbox in System Prefs.]

Long story short ? and I don't mean this in any condescending or chastising
way ? but the updates are developed & released for good reason. I'd venture
to guess that you regularly apply the OS X updates & there's no good reason
to not do the same with Office.

I don't doubt it, but have also seen a hell of a lot of weeping, moaning
and gnashing of teeth about the various iterations since, and mine's
chugging along just fine.
