Version 12.0.1
I know I could upgrade, but it ain't broke and so I'm not inclined to
fix it.

Which version of Word are you using?
That sounds like the document has some VBA in it that is interfering with or
intercepting some of your customisations.
Cheers

I was sent a Word document to edit and I had some real problems with it.
I'm not sure what platform it was created on, but more than likely it
was Windows, since it came from a (Canadian) government agency.
I could not select words or phrases with my mouse. I could, however
select them with the trackpad.
I was able to paste text but I couldn't paste/replace. The only way to
remove existing text was to use the delete keys.
I have Save As mapped to a keystroke. It didn't work in this document.
All other documents are behaving normally.
Corruption, or oculd it be something else?
