Re: making a word document created on my mac viewable by windows users

The other computer should have offered to retrieve the free converter it
needs, from the Microsoft website. If it didn't, they haven't been doing
their updates.

There are people in the world who simply refuse to maintain either their
cars or their computers. At some point, you have to say to them "well, then
it's not going to work. Sorry." Don't let them make their problem your
problem :-)

There is no such thing as a file that can be viewed on "any" computer.

However, if you save the file in RTF format, and then zip the RTF file and
email in MIME format, you have covered 99.99 per cent of the bases :-)

Always keep your originals in .docx format, because if you convert to a
different format you may lose stuff that can't be saved in the other format.
And .docx is about a quarter the size of the old formats, so you will also
save disk space.

And I always send .docx first: for most people on most computers, it "just
works" and you then have the confidence that they are seeing the document
the way you wanted them to. You can send RTF to the ones who complain they
can't read .docx, but wait for them to complain :-)

Cheers
