Re: Word 2008: unable to insert image once document is saved

CyberTaz,

Our company is having the exact same problem. We do quite a bit of graphic
use in our business and we first noticed this problem about 3 weeks ago AFTER
a Mac OS update. We are currently running 10.5.4 (9E17). I know for a fact
that this was not an issue 1 month ago - but it is now.

I haven't found a good workaround yet; and frankly I am a bit amazed that I
don't see more people in the Mac forum complaining about this MS bug.

Sorry David , but there is no "SP2" for Office 2008. If you state exactly
what your current version is perhaps someone can offer suggestions.

The problem was corrected (for most anyway) by SP1 (12.1.0) & I've not seen
any backlash resulting from the 12.1.1 update. Have you repaired disk
permissions & restarted since applying whatever update you last installed?

It's possible you have a similar but different situation, so give complete
details re Office & OS X versions and type of Mac. It would also help if
you'd clarify the points about differing file types (.doc/.docx) & saved v.
unsaved documents.

I know at least one other person reported this, but the proposed
workaround isn't working around. I'm running Word 2008 with SP2 and
once I've saved my document, if I try to insert an image using the
Insert Picture command, I get an error message saying that the image
format is not recognized by Word. This happens whether the image is a
PNG, JPG, TIFF, etc. If I drag the image into place, it's fine, but
then my PC colleagues can't see the image (the image has to be
inserted using the command). Interestingly, if I create a new document
that has not yet been saved as a .doc file, I can insert any image to
my heart's content. I tried closing the formatting pallette, but that
didn't solve the problem. I also tried saving as a .docx, but once the
document has been saved in any format, it can't accept images except
by dragging them into place. This wouldn't be so bad if Windows-based
computers could see the images I've inserted by dragging, but they
often can't.

Suggestions? Thanks!
