Re: Entire office will not work

Although not *impossible* it is highly unlikely that a virus would be the
issue. That doesn't rule out the possibility that something included in the
downloading that was done might be interfering with the operation of the
Office apps - add-ins are definitely known to cause that type of behavior.
That would be one of the first things to check for - especially any
"utilities", "helpers" or "haxies" that run automatically.

Also, if you're using the Leopard feature called Spaces turn that off...
Office 2008 doesn't yet work properly with it so there's no telling what
might happen with Office X:-) Since the new account behaved correctly then
stopped doing so it does suggest something external of Office that's causing
the problem.

Try running Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions, restart the iMac. If
that doesn't resolve it try launching Word while holding the Shift key.

Post back with your results & any additional details you find.

I completed all of the steps that you suggested. My problem still exists.
All of the office suite reacts the same way. Could this be a type of virus
or other infection? This computer did a lot of downloading the last several
weeks. If so, what is the best virus protection for incoming e-mails and
downloads.

Did you *update* it after installing? Version 10.0 is arcane & out of
step
with the level of OS X you're running it on (Office X was a migration
from
the earlier Mac Classic OS written for OS X 10.1 - Puma).

If you apply the 10.1.9 update you'll [probably] get better results,
although I don't have any experience with Office X in Leopard:
