Re: Cannot save work file / out of memory error

I am almost certain that Normal.dotm is corrupt.

If 12.0.1 has applied correctly, then all you need to do is delete
Normal.dotm again, and allow Word to rebuild a clean one.

However, that will fix only "new" documents.

Existing documents contain a copy of the bad data structure in the old
template.

To fix, do a "Maggie" on each affected document:

1) Create a new blank document

2) Carefully select all of the text in the bad document EXCEPT the last
paragraph mark

3) Copy it.

4) Paste in the new document.

5) Save under a new file name and close all, then re-open.

This technique for de-corrupting is known as "Doing a 'Maggie'", after
Margaret Secara from the Word PC-L mailing list who first publicised the
technique.

Hope this helps

Using Office 2008 (with 12.0.1 updater installed) on iMac @ home. Just
recently, have begun getting errors about normal.dotm being corrupt, out of
memory, etc.

Have some 300+GB of HD space, and over 1GB of memory free (green) as reported
by Activity Monitor.

Works FINE in another user, just not the one we used to install it. Worked
fine for about the first 30 minutes, never afterward.

Have tried:
1. rebooting
2. repairing permissions
3. applying permissions fix to rectify original installer issue (described on
this site)
4. Uninstalling, reinstalling Office, and removing all MS-related content in
/L/AppSupport/MS , ~/L/Prefs/com.micro*, ~/L/Prefs/MS, in the process.

Can't use AppleJack, as we're on Leopard.

No illuminating messages in Console.app...

Ideas? I'd love some help on this.
