Re: Default language not set

Does that mean Word 2008 and OS 10.5? You'd be surprised how many people here claim to be using the latest versions and in fact don't have a clue. Have you applied the 12.0.1 update? The keyboard layout bugs have been reported so it's possible that update contains some improvements.

Wait--you are using a French Canadian layout but Word insists on defaulting to English? the known bug would be more like using French Canadian layout and Word insists on defaulting to French Canadian even though you set English as the default. Hmm, I'm bewildered. But it certainly sounded like you set the language correctly. Wildly guessing--

Is your OS in English, or French Canadian? You might see if this hint suggests anything you can test--again, it's the inversion of what you want, but maybe it will help.

Please report this oddity, with specific details of version and whether you applied the 12.0.1 update, and what happens, to Microsoft via Help | Send Feedback in Word.

Workaround 1: Open a new doc, set it to French Canadian, save it as a template. Create new docs by double-clicking it instead of through Word.

Workaround 2: Speed up the Select All and set to FC by using a script to do it in a single click, instructions here:

Hello Daiya, my keyboard layout is indeed in French Canadian, which i am ;-)

Yes, Word behaves correctly if I set manually the language settings to
French Canadian.

I'm using the last version of OS X and Word.

What version of Word and OS?

Word 2008 has definite bugs with using one keyboard layout and writing
in a different language--what keyboard layout are you using?

When you create a new doc after setting default, does Tools | Language
also come up with English pre-selected?

Are you able to manually set a specific document to French Canadian and
have it behave?
