You are probably trying to run Word in Spaces or Expose. Word 2008 is not
compatible with either -- we are waiting for a bug fix.
The line count was removed from the Status Bar (because it is usually
meaningless in a proportional-type, dynamically-paginating application).
Use Help>Send Feedback to tell Microsoft if you want it back :-)
Cheers

I'm a former user of an earlier Word version. In the older version, v.X, I was
able to double click a word to highlight it. That doesn't seem to work in
2008. Am I missing something?
Also, in v.X I could see the line I was at in the bottom, along with page
number and word count. I don't know how to see the line I'm at in 2008. Again,
what am I missing?
