Re: Problem editing footnotes and endnotes

John was having two problems. Which are you seeing? What version of Word are you using?

I still can't reproduce either one, and my machine is no longer customized.

Diagnostic tricks to help locate the cause of the problem:

1) Log out of your user account, then hold down shift while logging back in. If the problem disappears, it is probably due to some conflict with the login items/utilities in your user account.

2) create a new user account in OS X and test in that one. If the problem disappears, then the installation is fine but some user-specific file has corrupted.

Hi, I'm having the same problem that John is having. This is strange.
I can't find any solution so far.

Hi John,

I can't reproduce that--both of those actions work here. Not sure what
could be causing your problem.

Re #1--when I double click on a footnote number in Draft view, the
footnote pane opens up. Same for endnotes.
For #2, check the Preferences | Edit settings.

Can someone else test also? My machine is a bit customized.

With Word 2004, I could click on a footnote or endnote in draft view
and have Word take me directly to the bottom of the page so that I
could edit the relevant footnote. With Word 2008 I can't. Now I have
to go to view, footnotes, then select endnotes. It's very cumbersome.
Is there some faster way?
I also used to be able to double click on a word and have the word
automatically high light. No more. Sigh.
