No wasn't. but the reason I wasn't is that they used an oak paddle about two inches thick and had holes drilled in it to cut down wind resistance.

Whenever it was used you could actually hear wind whistling through it.

I did have the misfortune to have a teacher that had a mental problem. every other year she would pick one boy that could do no right. Then the next year it was girls turn.

Years later after the principal of the school retired he admitted to me and my mother she was mentally unstable.
