Once you have opened the file once, I would Save As .doc format, change the paper size, select all and use Tools | Language to change the language. Alternatively, copy and paste from the RTF into a new Word doc (though you'll still have to change the language, probably).
It's not reasonable to expect ReadIris to pick up your default Word settings when it creates an RTF file, and once the file is created, just opening it in Word is not going to automatically apply your Word settings. Anyhow, since you don't really know what ReadIris has done at the coding level, it's just as well to get the text into a format where you *do* know what's going on (more or less).

I have to scan a book (over 200 pages) and my OCR program has the.
option to output in rtf direct to Word X. This is very useful as it
saves me re-applying italics etc. The files are exported to word as
***.rtf and open fine using the direct link from ReadIris. But, if I
close the file and save it when I try to re-open it (still with
its .rtf suffix) all of the rtf codes are displayed, not the actual
formatted text.
Also, the files from ReadIris open in US Letter page, with language
set to US English, even though my default paper size and language set
in the normal template is A4 and UK English.
Does anyone have an answer to these glitches?
Thanks
