Is it safe to assume that you aren't trying to open from or save to some
sort of removable media when this happens? If not, that is the problem -
Always work with files from a hard drive, not CDs, USB flash drives, etc. If
that is a safe assumption, however...
Did you use the Office Test Drive & not remove it using the Remove Office
utility before installing the live version? That could be the problem - just
Trashing the Test Drive folder or installing the real thing without a full
removal can cause this sort of problem as well.
Also, make sure that both OS X & Office are fully updated - jsut because you
recently purchased the Mac doesn't mean everything is up-to-date. Current OS
is 10.4.8, Office is 11.3, so if necessary go to the respective sites & d/l
the updates.

New MacBook, new Office 2004. From time to time, Word will not allow
me to save new documents. Also will not allow me to open certain older
docs except in Read Only format. I have repaired permissions. I am
the only one using this computer. Help!
