Re: Office X, Office 2004 Test Drive

Dear [whoever],

The test drive should be removed before installing the full version in order
to prevent future problems. Don't remove it manually: use the Remove Office
tool located in the Value Pack folder on your Office X CD. When you run that
application, you will be given the option to remove the test drive only.

But seeing you asked, I'd recommend installing Office 2004, which is now
heavily discounted. It is a huge improvement on Office X, especially the
Word application -- mainly because Office X was based on a very early,
pre-release version of OS X, and as we all know, OS X has undergone profound
changes in the past 5 years. The problems with Word 2004 on Intel Macs are
not inherent to that version -- it's just that people with that version are
reporting the problems.

I just bought a new intel Mac. It's come with a test drive of Office
2004. I am already using Office X. I've installed my old Microsoft
Office X on my new computer. Any reason to upgrade to 2004? Seems
like a lot of problems go with it. Any time I open a document now, it
opens in the test drive version of Office 2004 with a pitch to buy it.
Any reason to leave X behind in favor or 2004? Or best to stay with X?
Biggest problem with X was inexplicable "Word has unexpectedly Quit"
periodically, which caused me to set a preference for backing up every
two minutes.
