You must send in Word Document format. If you send in any other format, the
comments will be stripped. So for example if you paste the document into an
email, it gets converted to HTML, which does not support comments.

You must send the document as an Attachment (with a .doc extension).

The PC user must configure Word correctly to show comments (and you must set
Mac Word up properly to display comments). See the Help in both
applications.

Under Preferences>Security, make sure you have both options OFF or your
comments will be stripped on save.

I am editing text in Word for Mac and rely heavily on the comments
feature, but cannot seem to get it to function properly in emailed
documents. The comments do not show up when my client opens the heavily
commented files I sent her. I also tried emailing it to myself and
downloaded/opened the file on the same machine I modified it on, but
still the comments do not appear. The appear just fine in versions I
save to my machine and reopen later, though. If anyone has ANY advice
to offer on this matter, I sure would appreciate it!!
