Re: Word 2004: Footer outside printable margin.

Hi Frank:

I assume that you have set the correct margins in your Normal template?

Any documents created after that should have the correct margins.

The printer driver tells you what the legal margins are. Its job is to tell
you if the margins of each document are set outside the edge of the page.

The Normal template sets the default margins for each new document you
create. If the Normal template has been wrong for a while, you could have a
few documents on your machine with bad margins: you need to simply correct
and save each one before you print it.

Hope this helps

Hi Frank:

Since I used to work for HP, I suppose it's not fair of me to expect you to
know that when HP tells you to talk to Microsoft, what they are really
saying is "We don't know how to drive an Apple" :-)

Anyway: The problem doesn't belong to either company: you have a bad PPD
(PostScript Printer Definition) on your computer.

The usually way to fix it is to delete the printer completely, reboot the
Mac, then re-install the printer.

In the meantime, open your Normal template, go to File>Page Setup, and set
the margins on all sides to at least one centimetre (preferably 2 cm). The
OfficeJet will comfortably print to within 1 cm of the paper edge, so that
will get rid of the error.

Save Normal template and close. All new documents will now be correct. You
will need to do the same operation on each old document that displays the
error to get it to print.

Cheers

When I try to print a document with the bottom margin for footers set to
0.5", I get an error message from Word saying the the footer is outside
the printable margin. The lower half of the footer is cut off in both
the Mac Preview and in the document printed by Word.

If I "reset" the margin settings in Word, the software tells me that the
minimum margin for my printer is 0 (zero). I do not have this problem
with the top header margin.

I consulted with HP, thinking the problem is theirs, and they told me to
talk to Microsoft.

John,

I did as you suggested: deinstalled (deleted) the printer from my
configuration, powered the printer down, rebooted, downloaded the latest
software package from the HP site, and installed it.

In Word,in both Print Preview an hardcopy, the bottom half of the footer
is still being deleted (not printed or displayed). The way I use to get
around it is to set the footer margin greater than 0.5.

Please note that the same thing is happening with the footer printed by
Firefox. Do you think the current driver is at fault, and HP is not
aware of it? I find that hard to believe because they would probably be
getting complaints from other OfficeJet 6210 users.

Any other suggestions?

Frank
