Re: Lost Scroll Bar in Word 2004

Michel,

Still doesn't work. Still get same error message re: Framework Library
at start-up, and still get same error message when I try autoupdate.
Rec'd same error message when I tried to use the standalone updater.

Any other ideas?

Ok, let's give it another try:

when you remove Office, did you make sure that no Office application was
running? Also, make sure that the Database Daemon is not running. The
Database Daemon is an invisible background process, and you'll need to quit
it in Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor). Launch
Activity Monitor, then select Database Daemon from the list of the currently
active applications (the icon looks similar to Entourage's icon), then click
on the quit icon in the upper left corner. Now remove Office with the Remove
Office tool, then trash the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, if it's still in
the Applications folder. Empty the trash, and restart your computer. Now
reinstall Office, and try to update the applications. If you still cannot
update through Microsoft AutoUpdate, try applying the standalone updater
from Mactopia <http://tinyurl.com/o5pp9>.

Michel,

Tried your suggestion 2x, following directions to a "T." Removed
Office, emptied trash, removed Office folder, but same error message.
Any other ideas I could try?

It doesn't matter how often you remove Office; if you don't do it the right
way, your problems won't go away. To remove Office, you will have to use the
Remove Office tool in Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional
Tools/Remove Office, as Office installs several of its components outside
the Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 folder, which consequentially don't
get removed if you only delete the Office folder. Run the Remove Office tool
and delete the Office folder if it's still there afterwards. Then perform
the reinstall, and the Framework Library message should go away, and you
should also be able to perform the update.

Scroll bars can be switched on in Word>Preferences, View, Window section.
I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for; if it isn't, you'll need to
give us more details.
