Hi Impy,
To follow up CyberTaz--
In many circumstances, people who ask for more than 9 levels have
misunderstood the purpose of levels, and think that they need a level for
each chapter, instead of realizing that the level applies to subsectioning
chapters--e.g., in hierarchical numbering like 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.3.1, 9
levels would equate to :
3.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1
Most people don't break their writing down that minutely.
I'm having a hard time imagining how an *index* would need 9 levels of
hierarchy--in fact, I'm kinda curious to know. Actually, while I haven't
done many indexes, I can't see how the heading levels apply to indexes at
all, as hierarchy in indexes is created differently, I thought. Did you
mean a table of contents, or have I totally missed something?
However, someone did figure out how to get 18 levels for numbered headings.
Perhaps their work will help you get whatever it is you need:

You may need to re-wrap the long link.

Sorry, AFAIK 9 levels is the max supported in Word for outlining, bulleting,
numbered lists, indices, etc.

Hi everyone,
I'm using the automatic index faxility in word, but it only has 9
levels. I'd need more. Can I increase it (at least to 13 or 14)?
thanks
