Hi Ray,
Re John's comments--
Assuming she sent you a Word file, and that the QuickTime movie is just
extraneous information (though sounds like quite a friend!), chances are
that she used a font you don't have, possibly to get letters beyond the
usual US English.
Your version of Word is *extremely* important here--great strides were made
between Word X and Word 2004.
Also, did you simply double-click the file, or did you use File | Open to
open it? If File | Open, please make sure Enable in that dialog is *not* set
to Recover Text From Any File.

Recently had a friend send me a Word file of some lyrics to a song
she had written and used in a QuickTime movie she made.
When I opened the file, it displays a white box, then a "letter", then
a white box, "letter", etc, along with other "hieroglyphics". Makes
for tough reading.
What can I do on my end to have it appear in a normal text mode ?
thanks
