can't print

John,
The printer works fine printing other documents. However, I am unable
to print the "press release .dot". When I try to save it as a word doc, an
error message says "you cannot save a template file to a non-template
format". Nor am I able to save it as a PDF. I can send the doc
for your review. Also, below is the "equipment" I am using.
THANKs,
Gary

HI Gary:
Just as an aside, it's not a good idea to send HTML mail to me: it usually
doesn't make it through the spam filter :-)
If you are talking about the Print>Preview command in Word, if that comes up
blank we could assume that it indicates that your computer still can't "see"
the printer driver. Measurements from the printer driver are used to make
up that image.
Word itself has little to do with printing in either Mac or Windows. It
just sends the job out to the OS Printing Subsystem, and makes room on the
screen to display the returned result.
I have an HP printer here. I had a punch-up getting it to go also, but
since then it has been running fine (mine's two years old). In that time, I
changed both computers. I had another punch-up getting it to go on the
Windows box, but the Mac driver just worked...
Sorry: Can't be of much help.
Cheers

John,
I uninstalled the HP software, ran TechTool Pro, ran OnyX.
Downloaded HP software, installed, ran TechTool Pro and OnyX.
In preview screen shows as a blank doc.
Followed Michel's advice, and again doc showed as a blank.
I am researching the page you directed me to.

Start by doing all of this:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/CantPrint.html
I suggest that it is "likely" that your printer driver has got itself intoa
state where Word can't talk to it properly, and that your solution will be
to remove and re-install your printer while Word is closed.
I'd do it in this sequence:
1) remove the printer
2) reboot the computer
3) Reinstall the printer
4) Restart Word.
Various problems are likely if you try to do this without rebooting, or with
Word running.

1) I am not able to print a ³word² document. The printer spits out a
blank
!
It is a multi-colored doc from the Word templates (press
release,dots).
This is VERY important !
As Clive suggested, create a single post for that problem and post it in the
Word newsgroup. However, here are a couple of thoughts: can you print in
colour in other applications? What happens when you print in black & white
(File>Print, dropdown menu: Color Sync, Quartz Filter: Black & White)?
That's just to make sure there's nothing wrong with the document itself.
Also, what happens when you save as PDF?
