Re: Line break in Excel cell, merged into a cell in a Word document

Hi Rup:

Check the Style applied to the Table, the formatting applied to the cells,
and the formatting of the style.

When you send two paragraphs into Word, the first would be formatted with
the formatting of the table cell, the second with the default paragraph
style.

To correct this, you need to ensure that all of the cells and the table
itself have the same style applied and that he style has the formatting you
want. If there is any Direct (non-style...) formatting left hanging around
in the Table, it will give you trouble. Use Edit>Clear>Clear Formatting to
get rid of it. Then apply the correct style (in this case, probably a style
you create for yourself with your required formatting).

Cheers

I have a double problem :

The final result is that after merging an Excel file ("database") with
a Word file, putting some of the Excel data into cells in a Word table,
some of the cells' contents are partially misaligned. I format a Word
cell to contain only one data item ("parcel_address"), normally
left-aligned, and in some cases, the inserted data from Excel is split
into 2 paragraphs, the first being left aligned with a 7,62cm
left-margin, the second part being OK (no left margin).

Why is this ?
Well, in Excel, the "parcel_address" is a concatenated string with
company, street, zip code, city and country all put together. The
glitch is with the street name, which itself comes from an internet
hosted application : I export the data (ISO Latin 1 character encoding)
and have to convert it to Mac Roman + Mac line breaks with TextWrangler
before before being able to read it correctly into Mac Excel 2004.
The result, at the end, is that the original line break in a multi-line
street name turns into a paragraph mark in Word, which misaligns the
first part of the address.

Why ?
How can I work around this problem ?

Thanks for any help,
Rup
