If you're using X.3.x, there should be a language icon in the menu bar.
When you're in the Word document and type in it, does that icon remain
the Chinese flag? If it changes, you'll need to select Chinese from
the drop-down menu. If Chinese doesn't appear there, you'll need to
open International and enable it.
