Word will *always* open the "attached template" when opening the document
regardless of what checkbox is on/off. Verify this in the "Tools | Template
& Add-ins..." dialog.
If you don't want the Template on the network to be opened, then either
attach a local copy of the template or use "Normal". However this negates
any benefit that having the template linked provides (such as updating
styles, autocorrect, toolbars and macros) that can be updated on the server
copy.
