Word 2001
Hi,
I still have not resolved this issue of "Work Menu Loses Documents". I set
up 5 or 6 items in work menu. Then holdin gthe shift key I opened the file
menu and "Saved All". I quit word. Opened it. And all items I just had
placed on the work menu were gone. What reappeared were items I have 'added
to" months ago.
Also, there is an icon that can be taken from All Commands in Customize also
called "Save All". The icon is three floppy discs stacked up. The
"Description" For this in commands is "Save All (SHIFT+ menu)", same as
Daiya's explanation, and "Saves all open files in this application.
I tried clicking that icon also and it didn't save items in the work menu
either.
I reviewed all NG " Work Menu Loses Documents" posts and I believe the issue
may never have been resolved there. I'm replying from the most recent post
which doesn't include the whole thread, so I include a couple of quotes from
previous NG posts on this issue below.
Thanks, Rafael
--These are my quotes below
"Getting Work Menu To Hold ³AddTo Work Menu² Items"
1. "Make sure you save your Normal template after making changes to the Work
menu :-) That's where it's stored.
John"
2. "If in Preferences, Save, you have checked "prompt to save Normal", Word
will ask you to confirm those changes when you Quit, and if you hit No,
changes will not be saved.
"You can force a save to Normal, without quitting, by
hitting Save All. If you hold down Shift, then click the File menu, Save
All will be an option, or you can assign a shortcut key or an icon to it
(cmd-opt-s might be the default Save All, or that might be just my
shortcut).

Hi Daiya:
Yes, you are right: I did think it was stored in Normal, and as your
testing proves, I was wrong.
Something like two years ago, I asked out Technical Lead to get us a list of
what settings are stored in which preferences files. The list is readily
available on the Microsoft web site for PC Word.
But so far, I have had no response. Sorry about that.
Cheers
